So Cal Vs Nor Cal - Planning Your California Wedding Right
Longstanding is the divide between Northern and Southern California culture- with some even branding the two halves as different states entirely. We’re lucky enough to travel between the two equally, and are in favor of a harmonious view of our golden state- and a bullet train! Though it’s impossible to brand either North or South “better,” through experience, we have certainly met the difference in affordances. When it comes to wedding planning, it really begins at the root of the bride and groom’s perspective. When picturing California, do they see the Redwoods, or the beach? Do they prefer the hustle and bustle of L.A, or are they seeking cliffside views? We’re grateful to live in a state where one can go skiing and swimming in the same day, so we’ve compiled our top three considerations with no favor towards either. We hope it helps a bride-to-be choose between contenders!
1. Weather
It may surprise you, but Northern California and Southern California experience completely different weather patterns. Northern California is generally cooler, but calls to mind wedding gowns flowing in cinematic breezes. Southern California is known for its sunshine and dry heat, (no hair frizz here!) and are thus perfect for a dream beach affair.
2. Cuisine
Southern California is famous for Mexican fare, and also birthplace to many food trends. If crafty ice cream creations or innovative vegan treats excite you, look no further than Los Angeles county. Conversely, the farm-to-table movement, home of wine country, and the location of four of the US’s 12 three Michelin-star restaurants are all synonymous with Northern California.
3. Population Density
Los Angeles is known for being a jam-packed area, and though it’s ripe with beautiful venues and home to many creative wedding vendors, options are limited to the Los Angeles and Orange counties, which may require planning further in advance. Northern California contains Wine Country, Monterey County, the Bay Area, San Francisco, and so much dense green in between. Though availability varies greater in Northern California, it’s rich with options for nature-loving newlyweds.
